The sustainability of real-estate sector is directly connected with the sustainability of quality of life in cities. Turkey, having a great potential for real-estate investments nowadays, is being globally heard in international platform with the quality of work done in this area. The biggest responsibility falling upon the actors in real-estate industry is to quicken the steps that will allow the industry to develop faster. In order to make it happen, the bonds between public, private sector, professional organizations and NGOs has to be strengthened.
The most important aspect of sustainable real-estate investments is, without a doubt, their responsibility to the environmental issues. In our country, “Regulation of Energy Performance in Buildings (BEP)” that became valid at the end of the year 2009 is an important step towards the issue. However, while formalizing the issues of sustainability and energy efficiency, the regulation includes only the buildings which will be constructed, not the existing ones.
Important government promotions regarding the issue of eco-friendly buildings are being given to private sector in developed countries. The future of the real-estate investment sector which is providing one of the most important investment tools to people for the future depends on the formulation of long-term and sustainable real-estate policies.
