Mr. Arıkoğlu was born in 1949 in Baltimore, USA where he completed Baltimore Polytechnic Institute High School. After receiving his architectural degree from University of Maryland School of Architecture in 1973, he worked in the London offices of Colin St. John Wilson Partners for a year.

In 1974 he was admitted to Cornell University Urban Design Graduate School to study with Professor Colin Rowe. After receiving his Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Cornell in 1976, he joined his father İlhan Arıkoğlu's architectural practice in Istanbul, Turkey. 
Mr. Arıkoğlu accepted a teaching position at University of Maryland as a design critic in 1979. Paralel to his teaching, Mr. Arıkoğlu joined the Virginia offices of VKR Inc. where he became an associate partner in 1984 and designed significant projects that received national and local recognition.
Mr. Arıkoğlu established his private practice in Oakton, Virginia in 1987 and primarily designed projects near Dulles Airport for the Batman Corporation. 
After receiving first place award in the International Urban Design Competition to Revitalize Semerkand in 1991, Mr. Arıkoğlu returned to Adana, Turkey establishing Arıkoğlu Arkitekt Ltd. In addition to practicing architecture and urban design in Adana, Mr. Arıkoğlu continued teaching at Çukurova University until 1998. Presently, Mr. Arıkoğlu continues with his practice of architecture and urban design at his Adana offices. 
Presently, Mr. Arıkoğlu is a registered architect in Turkey and in the U.S.A. His projects and articles have been published in various periodicals and magazines. He has attended numerous conferences, and has given lectures worldwide. Mr. Arıkoğlu received the University of Maryland International Alumnus of the Year Award in 1996 and he was awarded the National Award for Turkish Architecture in 2004.
