Born in 1960 in Ankara, Celal Abdi Guzer finished his architectural education in METU, Department of Architecture in 1982. He researched for a while on “Critics on Architecture” in Newcastle Upon Tyne University with the scholarship of the English Government and then finished his doctorate on the same subject in METU. Associate Professor Abdi Guzer is currently giving lectures about critics on architecture in METU Department of Architecture and is the design workshop coordinator of the 4th grade students.
Having served as METU Co-Head of Department of Architecture, Chair for the Department of Construction Technology, Associate Dean and General Secretary of the Architects’ Association 1927, Guzer is recently Chair of the Architects’ Association 1927. Besides various jury memberships in architectural competitions, Guzer won numerous mansions and awards, the three of them being the first prize. He also has a large number of built projects. Among these, the MATPUM building which he both designed and was the founder chairman of, received the YEM Design Award in 2008 in the category of buildings of the last 5 years. In addition to critics on architecture, Guzer’s fields of interest include architectural theory and practice of the recent era, housing and public housing buildings, urban design and urban renovation projects, environmental awareness in buildings and sustainability. Guzer is realizing most of his projects through the agency of the METU Circulating Capital Enterprise and is the founder of the CAG Architectural Workshop aiming to produce research environment for architecture and design and to support project production.
